The Challenge
As Head of Biology Group, you will be a key part of our diverse team in Hørsholm. You will lead the HMO Biology Group and be responsible for driving the strategy for research activities and innovation areas within Human Milk Oligosaccharides, for both infant and adult applications. You will work cross functionally and lead collaboration efforts with Innovation, Regulatory, Marketing, Commercial, IP stakeholders across DSM to deliver business and scientific projects and to ensure technical competence development.

Your role will also involve setting up external collaborations and innovation projects with knowledge institutes and/or other companies. You will present the interpretation of scientific data results internally and externally to globally operating project teams. Finally, your entrepreneurial spirit and commercial savviness will help you deliver to the needs, and effectively communicate with external clients and key business stakeholders.
In this role you will become a member of the HMO Strategic Leadership team with additional responsibility for joint site leadership and business ownership.


Your key responsibilities are:

  • Create and implement an HMO research strategy, based on commercial requirements and direction; form the basis for strategic management decisions that will impact the direction of HMO innovation and research
  • Collaborate with the team and colleagues in DSM on global and regional level, to set direction for development of research and innovation projects for HMOs. Ensuring that the research projects are running as planned and milestones are met
  • Responsible for driving research collaborations both, within academia and industry, including contract agreements
  • Together with IP set the strategy for patent application and protection within HMO biology
  • Continue working on HMO advocacy and the strategy related to this, including engagement with KOL – this work is done together with Nutritional Science Advocacy
  • Supporting research projects lead by Human Nutrition & Health R&D in DSM

Your Talent
You have a MSc. and/or PhD. in Microbiology/ Food Technology/ Biological or Medical scientific related subjects.
7 + years’ professional experience working with Microbiome, gut health within Life Sciences. If you previously have been working related to the area of HMOs, this would be an advantage. You have experience in translating science into realistic applications, knowledge within research, innovation and commercialization and understanding of human pre -clinical and clinical trials according to GCP guidelines. You understand regulatory requirements for food ingredients, have experience in the management of work within projects (e.g., resources, costs etc.) and with design of educational seminars and forums.

As a person you bring a genuine passion to improve people’s lives and planet sustainability. You understand what it takes to bring new products to the market and have an entrepreneurial mindset. You are a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You have strong organizational and planning skills and attention to details and know that the capacity to prioritize is essential. You have good writing and presentation skills and are of course excellent in English – both written and verbal.
